100,000 Organic Eggs Stolen In Pennsylvania As Police Search For Leads

Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating a significant theft after 100,000 organic eggs, worth an estimated $40,000, were stolen from a trailer in Greencastle. The theft, which took place outside Pete & Gerry’s Organics, was discovered Saturday night.

Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene after receiving reports that eggs had been taken from the back of a distribution trailer. Investigators have not released details on how the theft occurred or if there are any suspects in the case.

Pete & Gerry’s Organics confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that they are working closely with law enforcement to determine what happened. The company, which has been operating since the 1980s and transitioned to organic farming in 1997, emphasized that they take the matter seriously and are committed to resolving it.

The timing of the theft comes as egg prices remain elevated. Reports indicate that the national average price for a dozen eggs reached $4.15 in December, marking a sharp rise from previous months. The increase has been attributed to supply shortages caused by an avian flu outbreak, which led to the loss of millions of egg-laying hens.

Pete & Gerry’s Organics operates through a network of more than 200 independent farms, mainly spread across the Midwest, New England, and the Mid-Atlantic. The company has been recognized for its high animal welfare standards and community contributions.

Police are continuing their investigation and have asked for the public’s assistance in identifying potential leads.
