Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris, citing mismanagement of the southern border and concealing President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. This move follows growing concerns among conservatives about Harris’s handling of immigration and the administration’s transparency regarding Biden’s health.
Ogles argues that Harris’s performance as “border czar,” a role she was appointed to in early 2021, has been marked by “extraordinary incompetence.” He claims her denial of a border crisis and assertion that the border was “secure” in September 2022, just days after the alleged murderer of Laken Riley entered the country, demonstrates a failure to uphold immigration laws and protect American citizens.
The articles of impeachment also highlight several tragic incidents, including the rape and murder of Rachel Morin and the murders of Laken Riley and 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray by illegal immigrants. These cases, Ogles suggests, underscore the human cost of what he describes as Harris’s indifference to the border crisis.
Additionally, Ogles accuses Harris of misleading the American public and Congress about Biden’s cognitive health. The articles claim Harris has a “moral obligation” to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Biden from office due to his inability to perform presidential duties effectively. This assertion is based on Harris meeting with Biden over 417 times since February 2021, suggesting she was aware of his declining condition long before his problematic debate with Donald Trump in June.
Former President Donald Trump has echoed these concerns, promising a strict immigration policy and mass deportations if reelected, reminiscent of measures implemented during President Dwight Eisenhower’s administration in the 1950s.
The impeachment move by Ogles reflects deep frustrations within the GOP regarding both the handling of the border situation and transparency about Biden’s health. As these articles progress, they are expected to spark significant debate about the current administration’s policies and leadership.
