Biden Allowing Americans To Be “Put At Risk” By Going To Beijing Olympics

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley gave an interview on Wednesday to the Washington Free Beacon that points out how Joe Biden is placing American athletes traveling to China for the Beijing Olympics in harm’s way. The warning comes as the Chinese Communist Party has declared that it will punish foreigners in their nation for the games for making offensive political statements.

Haley said that it is no surprise that China is making threats against athletes regarding any criticism of the communist regime. She said that the “diplomatic boycott” declared by Biden means nothing to the Chinese government that is conducting genocide and imprisoning dissidents without any consequences. The diplomatic boycott means that no American government officials will travel to the games, but athletes participate.

She added that the White House had not provided any reassurances about how Americans will be protected while in China.

A top Chinese government official involved in organizing the games, Yang Shu, issued a warning on Tuesday that all foreign athletes traveling to China will be punished for political speech. The regime made it clear that it will not tolerate any criticism of the treatment of the Uyghur ethnic minority or the nation’s surveillance activities.

Shu went on to warn that any “behavior or speech” that goes against Chinese law or regulations will be subject to “certain punishment.”

This week’s warning has brought up renewed concerns that Americans could be detained in China if they are claimed to violate the vague restrictions on speech. Several watchdog groups express grave concern that the communist regime plans to spy on Americans and other foreigners while they are in Beijing. The diplomatic boycott increases the risk because of the lack of government officials “on the ground” to assist if needed.

Last month, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the diplomatic boycott means that there will be “no diplomatic or official representation” of the US in Beijing. She said that the athletes will have “our full support” and “we will be behind the 100 percent.”
