Biden Weighs Preemptive Pardons For Key Figures Amid GOP Pressure

As his presidency draws to a close, President Joe Biden is reportedly considering preemptive pardons for Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci. The decision, Biden said, stems from concerns that President-elect Donald Trump may target them for investigations.

In a recent interview, Biden said he urged Trump to avoid pursuing political vendettas. “I tried to make it clear that there was no need to settle scores,” Biden stated. Trump reportedly offered no indication of his intentions.

Cheney, who has faced allegations of witness tampering during her time on the January 6 committee, and Fauci, criticized for his pandemic leadership, are viewed as likely targets for Trump’s administration.

Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, Trump’s nominees for attorney general and FBI director respectively, have both pledged to pursue investigations into alleged corruption. Patel has proposed sweeping changes to the FBI, calling for its decentralization and a refocus on law enforcement.

Biden’s consideration of pardons follows his December decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Critics argue the move contradicts Biden’s earlier statements about allowing legal matters to proceed independently.

Trump dismissed the controversy over the potential pardons, stating, “Biden can give them a pardon if he wants to. And maybe he should.”
