Federal agents in Michigan arrested a suspected Gulf Cartel hitman during an immigration enforcement operation. Detroit Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Morris announced that Melquiades Salgado-Garza was taken into custody after officers identified him as a high-ranking enforcer for the cartel. His criminal record includes burglary, forgery, and repeated immigration violations.
This arrest was part of an ongoing effort to track down illegal immigrants with ties to organized crime. In another operation, Border Patrol agents in the Sault Ste. Marie Station detained a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang, a violent criminal group originating from Venezuela. Officials said the suspect was caught trying to retrieve a vehicle that had previously been seized by law enforcement.
Meanwhile, Border Patrol agents at the Marysville Station arrested a Mexican national who has entered the U.S. illegally ten times since 1999. Authorities are processing the individual for deportation.
Since President Donald Trump took office for his second term, border authorities have ramped up enforcement operations, leading to more than a thousand arrests of illegal immigrants. ICE and Border Patrol are focusing on individuals with criminal records as part of a broader effort to secure American communities.
Concerns over cartel operations in the U.S. have grown in recent months, with intelligence reports suggesting Mexican cartels are looking to use explosive drones against Border Patrol agents. President Trump’s designation of these cartels as foreign terrorist organizations allows for expanded military action against them.
With enforcement efforts increasing, federal agents are continuing to target high-profile criminals and gang members operating in the U.S. illegally.
