Court Compels US To Allow Men Compete As Women

District Court Judge Patrick Diamond has recently ruled that men who modified their genders to be women will be allowed to compete against natural-born women. The court’s ruling was influenced by a transgender athlete who filed litigation demanding access to the women’s category.

The court process commenced in 2019 when transgender athlete Jaycee Cooper sued USA Powerlifting for denying his bid to compete as a woman. USA Powerlifting President Larry Maile responded to Cooper’s lawsuit claiming the organization is focused on bringing equity to the sport.

“Our position has been aimed at balancing the needs of cis- and transgender women whose capacities differ significantly in purely strength sports,” Maile said in her statement.

Cooper backed up his agitation based on a Minnesota state anti-discrimination law stating he can compete under his “chosen gender.” Judge Diamond ruled in favor of the transgender athlete as the powerlifting ban on trans women was upturned.

“By denying Cooper the right to participate in the female category, the category consistent with her self-identification, USAPL denied her the full and equal enjoyment of the services, support, and facilities USAPL offered its members. It separated Cooper and segregated her and, in doing so, failed to fully perform the contractual obligations it agreed to when it accepted Cooper’s money and issued Cooper a membership card,” Diamond wrote in his ruling.

The transgender athlete won two competitions against a lone competitor in 2019. Although he lost one later, finishing fourth of four, it remains to be proved that his abilities at birth do not offer any undue competitive advantage over natural-born women.

According to Breitbart News, the transgender athlete allegedly takes an anti-androgen drug that substantially decreases the testosterone in his body.

Cooper’s attack on USA Powerlifting’s ban on transgender women interested Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Omar in 2019 sent a letter to then-Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison demanding that the AG’s office investigate USA Powerlifting for its ban on Cooper, according to Breitbart News. Omar erroneously described the ban as unscientific and a clear case of discrimination.
