Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued a call last week to the GOP-led House for a serious impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This comes in the wake of new and alarming disclosures surrounding the alleged involvement of Biden in his son, Hunter’s business dealings.
Cruz’s proclamation hinges on information revealed in a closed-door testimony from an IRS whistleblower regarding an investigation into tax fraud involving Hunter Biden. Central to this intrigue is a WhatsApp message from Hunter to a Chinese business associate, Henry Zhao, Director at Harvest Fund Management. Cruz asserts that the correspondence serves as “direct evidence of Joe Biden misusing his government power to enrich his son,” even suggesting a direct financial benefit to Biden himself.

The message from Hunter reads, “I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.”
This evidence contradicts the elder Biden’s continued denial of involvement in his son’s overseas business dealings. Yet, the severity of the situation is underlined by an alleged obstruction of a comprehensive investigation by the Biden Justice Department. This charge is not only directed at Hunter but also at any meaningful investigation into President Biden’s potential involvement.

Cruz points out that this troubling sequence of events demands an urgent House inquiry. “Of course, the House needs to investigate it, but the stunning thing is what the IRS whistleblower says is Merrick Garland prevented an investigation even into this message,” the Texas senator said.
IRS whistleblower, Gary Shapley, added weight to the concerns by alleging that the Department of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland effectively halted any thorough examination of the troubling message. This claim has been staunchly rejected by Garland, who has dismissed allegations of any interference in the probe.
Shapley has stood firm, asserting that a federal computer expert validated the authenticity of the laptop bearing the message, negating any possible manipulation.
Cruz’s clarion call has found echoes among his Republican counterparts, with Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) forwarded formal motions for the impeachment of Joe Biden on multiple issues, including the willful failure to enforce federal immigration law.
While Hunter Biden’s attorney maintains that the first son’s activities are isolated from the Biden family, the smoking gun of the WhatsApp message continues to stir the pot. The impeachment saga may be in its nascent stage, and its implications on the Biden administration remain to be seen. However, what remains unambiguous is the urgent need for a transparent investigation, free from the specter of political interference. As Cruz rightly pointed out, this situation demands a bipartisan commitment to the rule of law above all else.
