New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) defended President Donald Trump against claims of fascism during a recent press conference. He called on Americans to lower the intensity of their political rhetoric and avoid divisive language as Trump prepares to hold a rally in New York City.
Adams, responding to a question about whether Trump is a fascist, said, “I know what a fascist regime looks like, and it’s not fitting to make such comparisons.” He explained that he has faced similar accusations and found them to be unhelpful and inaccurate.
Adams argued that New York City should remain a place where people can express their opinions freely. “This is America, and we must allow individuals to share their views peacefully,” he said. He emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety during such events, ensuring everyone’s right to free speech is protected.
Adams’ defense of Trump comes in contrast to recent remarks by Vice President Kamala Harris, who cited an Atlantic report alleging that Trump expressed admiration for Hitler’s generals. Harris, along with other Democrats like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), labeled Trump as a fascist.
The Atlantic report also accused Trump of becoming upset over the funeral expenses for U.S. soldier Vanessa Guillen, with anonymous sources claiming he used offensive language. Newsom echoed Harris’ sentiments, suggesting that the former president’s comments justify using the term “fascist.”
While other Democrats continue to escalate their rhetoric, Adams is calling for a more restrained approach. He stressed that inflammatory language only serves to divide the nation further, and encouraged leaders to focus on solutions rather than blame.
