FBI Reveals Expansive Chinese Cyber Campaign Against US Leaders

The FBI has identified an extensive Chinese hacking campaign aimed at infiltrating U.S. telecommunications networks and stealing sensitive information from political figures. The investigation has highlighted significant security challenges posed by Beijing’s cyber operations.

In September, the FBI dismantled a Chinese hacking operation that compromised over 200,000 devices across the United States. More recently, hackers attempted to target the phones of President-elect Donald Trump, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) reported that Chinese hackers sought call records for certain individuals as part of their efforts to gather technological and government intelligence. Authorities have described the operation as a major threat to U.S. national security.

The FBI has not named specific victims but noted that those targeted were mostly engaged in political or governmental roles. The agency pledged to continue providing technical assistance and sharing information to mitigate further risks.

China has rejected the accusations, claiming the allegations are baseless. However, U.S. officials maintain that the evidence points to Beijing’s involvement in a coordinated cyber-espionage effort.

Organizations concerned about potential breaches have been advised to contact their local FBI offices or CISA for assistance in securing their networks and responding to potential threats.
