FBI Searches For Terror Cell Behind Deadly New Orleans Attack

The FBI is actively pursuing a suspected terror cell connected to a New Year’s attack in New Orleans that left 10 dead and 30 injured. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was identified as the attacker in a vehicle and shooting rampage in the French Quarter.

Jabbar carried an ISIS flag, and his truck was found to contain firearms and bombs. The explosives were hidden in coolers and wired for remote detonation, with the detonator recovered from the vehicle. Surveillance footage shows three men and one woman placing bombs before the attack.

Federal agents believe Jabbar was part of a larger group and are aggressively tracking his associates. FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan urged the public to provide information, noting the possibility of additional threats.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry stated that law enforcement is “hunting some bad people down,” while Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) confirmed that the FBI is pursuing all leads to dismantle the cell.

Jabbar’s ex-wife’s home was searched as part of the investigation. Her current husband described Jabbar’s erratic behavior and recent conversion to Islam, which authorities believe may have influenced his actions.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team has reportedly arrived in New Orleans. The unit specializes in high-risk operations and is assisting in the search for additional suspects.
