Gov. Tim Walz Backs David Hogg For DNC Vice Chair As Democrats Seek New Direction

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) is throwing his support behind activist David Hogg for vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, signaling a push for younger and more progressive leadership within the party. Walz believes Hogg’s bold approach is exactly what Democrats need after their loss in the 2024 election.

“David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic and courageous leadership the Democratic Party needs right now,” Walz said. He emphasized Hogg’s ability to energize voters and communicate the party’s message effectively. Walz, who campaigned with Hogg during his own failed presidential run, is confident in Hogg’s leadership potential.

Walz argued that the Democratic Party must adopt a more aggressive strategy moving forward. “This is exactly what we need right now, experienced, thoughtful and energized leadership that meets people where they are and takes bold action to win,” he stated.

Hogg gained national attention after surviving the 2018 Parkland school shooting and co-founding the March for Our Lives movement. His advocacy for stricter gun laws has made him a prominent figure in progressive politics.

In response to Walz’s endorsement, Hogg expressed deep appreciation. “Ever since the shooting at my high school, he’s been a champion for the gun violence prevention movement,” Hogg said. He praised Walz for being a dedicated public servant and called him “a good, decent man.”

Walz’s support for Hogg follows his recent endorsement of Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin for DNC chair, showing his desire to influence the party’s leadership direction.

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) has also backed Hogg’s bid for vice chair, highlighting growing momentum among younger Democrats for more progressive leadership.

As Democrats search for a new strategy after their recent defeat, Walz’s endorsement of Hogg signals a shift toward bold activism and youthful leadership within the party.
