Illegal Immigrants Continue to Flood Del Rio and the Rio Grande Valley

It seems like every other day you’re hearing something new about the southern border. There’s a reason for that. President Joe Biden’s administration hasn’t taken action to secure the border, even though there are large amounts of illegal immigrants crossing the border.

Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens shared a picture of two large groups of illegal immigrants who crossed the border in a 40-hour period. The photos were only two of the three groups encountered and two out of those three groups had more than 200 people in them.

According to Owens, 50% of all large groups of illegal immigrants come in through Del Rio, Texas. Border Patrol defines large groups as 100 or more migrants crossing at one time.

Since the beginning of the Fiscal Year 2022, which started October 2021, there have been 236,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions in Del Rio. In April, 2022 there were almost 41,000 apprehensions, which is nearly 25% of the 7 month apprehension total. Though Del Rio isn’t the busiest area, the shocking number of apprehensions is concerning. The only sector of the border that’s busier than Del Rio is the Rio Grande Valley sector, which has seen 287,000 apprehensions in the same time period.

Between March and April, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 422,000 illegal immigrants in March and April. As shocking as that may seem, in the last three months there have been approximately 625,000 apprehensions of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S.

Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Chris Mangus said, “there have always been periods of migrant surges into this country for different reasons, at different times. But I don’t think anybody disputes that the numbers are high right now and that we have to work as many different strategies as possible to deal with those high numbers.”

If that’s the case, then why isn’t Mangus coordinating with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to use border wall construction material to strengthen the border in Del Rio and the Rio Grande Valley? Instead, material is going to be used elsewhere to fill in gaps.

The American people continue to lose faith in their government every day. If logical decisions can’t be made then politicians making the decisions should be removed from office. Border crossing numbers don’t lie and if Biden’s administration is going to ignore the statistics then they’re in for a rude awakening when Republicans take back Congress in the 2022 midterm election.
