Justice Thomas is a Major Influence Amid Backlash

As much as the left has attacked Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, he is still the most influential justice on the court. Experts on Thomas told Fox News the history of Thomas and how long this has been happening.

Mark Paoletta, who was with George H. Washington’s administration when Thomas was confirmed, told Fox News, “The left has been after Clarence Thomas since December of 1980, really — just as he was about to join the Reagan administration. And they hate him. They’ve tried to destroy him. They’ve tried to marginalize him. And 30 years later, he’s not just standing strong. His influence is at its zenith.”

In recent months, Thomas’ lead opinions have strengthened Second Amendment rights in New York and the most recent overturning of Roe v. Wade. Both are equally significant to human rights and self-defense; not only for the born but for the unborn as well.

Paoletta continued, “He didn’t write it, but the court was heavily influenced by Justice Thomas, in my opinion, the current sort of majority, by the courage he has shown in his jurisprudence. Justice Thomas has been writing about overturning Roe for 30 years.”

Thomas was the most senior Justice when overturning Roe v. Wade, and many times he’s had to dissent by himself, or only joined by one other Justice.

Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino told Fox News, “This term, in the Bruen case, he wrote the majority opinion clarifying the Second Amendment. Last term, the court finally recognized that the First Amendment protects a right to anonymous speech, something that Thomas had previously been a lone voice in advocating.”

Students at George Washington University are circulating a petition to have Thomas fired because of his ruling and because he questioned Griswold v. Connecticut, a case involving contraception, Lawrence v. Texas, which dealt with homosexual sex between consenting parties, and Obergefell v. Hodges, which made gay marriage a constitutionally protected right.

But, the university won’t remove Thomas from his class because it’s one of the most popular classes at the university. Paoletta says that there’s a waiting list to get in.

President Biden isn’t happy about the decision and said, “The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States on overruling not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy.”
