Kamala Harris Pushes For Citizenship For Millions Of Illegal Immigrants

Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing for a sweeping amnesty plan that would offer millions of illegal immigrants a path to U.S. citizenship. Harris praised the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 during an interview on Fox News, highlighting its goal of addressing the country’s immigration system.

The legislation, introduced by President Joe Biden on his first day in office, would grant “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” status to illegal aliens, allowing them to work and travel legally. After five years, they could apply for green cards, and within three more years, they could apply for U.S. citizenship.

The amnesty proposal aims to provide nearly all illegal aliens living in the country with a fast-tracked route to citizenship. This includes special provisions for farmworkers, DACA recipients, and those on Temporary Protected Status, who would be able to secure citizenship within three years.

One of the more controversial aspects of the bill is its provision to allow illegal aliens deported under President Donald Trump’s administration to return to the U.S. and apply for amnesty if they had been in the U.S. for at least three years prior to deportation.

In addition, the legislation proposes removing the term “alien” from federal law, replacing it with “noncitizen.” Harris defended the plan, stating that fixing the immigration system was one of the administration’s top priorities.
