Planned Parenthood’s Push Into School Boards Raises Parental Concerns

Planned Parenthood has announced plans to endorse and fund candidates in Pennsylvania school board elections, sparking outrage among parents and conservative groups. Critics argue the federally subsidized nonprofit is using its influence to promote radical agendas in public schools, undermining parental rights.

The organization’s agenda includes explicit sexual education, gender ideology, and medical treatments for children, such as hormone therapies. These initiatives often bypass parental input, leaving many families feeling sidelined in decisions about their children’s education and well-being.

Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration has supported Planned Parenthood’s broader influence in Pennsylvania. Shortly after taking office, Shapiro met with the group’s leaders to discuss expanding abortion access across the state. His deputy chief of staff, Lindsey Mauldin, previously worked for Planned Parenthood, further intertwining the nonprofit with state policies.

Parents and advocacy groups are pushing back. Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, called Planned Parenthood’s involvement in school board elections “outrageous” and a misuse of federal funds. “These decisions should be made by parents and communities, not outside organizations with political motives,” Descovich said.

Planned Parenthood’s newsletters reveal its ongoing efforts to influence schools, including training hundreds of teachers on controversial topics like gender identity. Critics see these workshops as attempts to indoctrinate children under the guise of inclusivity and education.

As school board elections approach, the battle over Planned Parenthood’s role in shaping public education highlights a growing divide between parents and federally funded organizations seeking to expand their influence in local schools.
