Pompeo Targets ‘Wokeness’ In The US Military

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo jumped feet first into the fray over “wokeness” in the U.S. military by putting out a new ad running in several 2024 early nominating states.

The ad campaign recognizes the harm being done to America’s national defense and readiness by the steady drumbeat of leftist politicians’ liberal agendas.

In a release accompanying the ad push, Secretary Pompeo acknowledges that the safety and security of the U.S. is directly “on the shoulders of our men and women in uniform.” Their training and readiness must not be compromised by “left-wing political goals.”

The Department of Defense has become enamored with policies streaming from the Biden White House such as teaching Critical Race Theory and other leftist priorities. Pompeo describes the lurch as “woke and weak.”

The ads are set to run in Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Washington, D.C. The buy came from Pompeo’s Champion American Values (CAV) PAC and features full-length one minute productions as well as shorter 30-second versions.

Pompeo is highly critical of “wokeness” in the armed forces, including such moves as the Air Force Academy recently telling cadets to avoid using “gendered” terms.

Training materials now tell cadets to avoid such terms as “mom and dad” and “boyfriend and girlfriend.” One program, the Brooke Owens Fellowship, explicitly welcomes women, “transgender women, non-binary, agender, bigender, two-spirit, demigender, genderfluid, and genderqueer” individuals.

It goes on to add that “if you are a cisgender man, this program isn’t for you.” So much for inclusion.

Pompeo specifically called out such programs as a “repackaged Marxist dogma” and asserted that a woke military is a military that is weak.

Warfighting doctrines are being replaced under the Biden administration, Pompeo charges, by emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and equity. The military, by the way, faces enormous difficulties in making its recruiting goals this year.

Pompeo attended West Point and was a cavalry officer in West Germany. He also served with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the Army’s 4th Infantry Division. As he said, a kid in a foxhole doesn’t “give a darn about political correctness.”
