Even as victims are identified and evidence gathered, the left leaped into full attack mode to find anyone to blame but the shooter. Without an established motive for Tuesday’s horrific shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas, politicizing of the tragedy is in full swing.
Radicals immediately pummeled moderate Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema for the filibuster’s continued existence. Without the filibuster, leftists claim, a simple congressional majority will right the wrongs of American society.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted that the pro-life position doesn’t exist for those who “let children be shot in their schools.” Democratic Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot, no stranger to the ineffectiveness of strict gun control on criminals, called for yet more gun control.
Former Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke took grandstanding to a new level when he crashed a press conference on the Uvalde shooting Wednesday. The candidate for Texas governor was shouted down by the town’s mayor and called a “sick s.o.b.” for politicizing the tragedy.
The media, of course, is all-too-willing to preach solutions even as victims are still being identified.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer observed that “weapons of mass destruction” are too easy to get in the United States. MSNBC’s Joy Reid suggested that Mexico and Canada build walls to keep themselves safe from Americans. She adds that we should be the ones on the other side of the wall.
Leftist filmmaker and commentator Michael Moore, always the voice of reason, demands the repeal of the 2nd Amendment. He then channeled the founding fathers in claiming that Washington, Madison, and Jefferson would feel differently if they knew of “this kind of carnage.”
Hollywood stars, always a guiding light for the nation’s morality and decency, quickly chimed in with their judgements.
Disney’s “Hocus Pocus 2” star Bette Midler, who spouts opinions on social issues so people will know she’s still alive, draws parallels between abortion and guns. In an unhinged Twitter rant, Midler slammed those who defend fetuses “only to have them die at school.”
Are changes needed? Obviously. Does strict gun control work? Ask any Chicago resident how much it deters criminals. But using tragedy to promote their agenda is raised to an art form by the left, and calling the practice sad does not begin to describe it.
