Tim Kennedy, a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Green Berets, has publicly criticized President Joe Biden for his handling of the Hurricane Helene relief efforts, suggesting that Biden’s visit obstructed essential rescue operations. Known for his service and humanitarian efforts, Kennedy has been active in helping those affected by the hurricane.
Kennedy stated that the president’s arrival caused a “No Fly” order that grounded helicopters meant for rescue missions. “We had to land helicopters to not go rescue people so a photo op could take place,” he said, describing the situation as “a travesty and that’s unconscionable.”
Traveling with Save Our Allies, the NGO he founded, Kennedy aimed to provide assistance to those in need. However, he expressed disappointment at the federal government’s lack of support, stating, “My heart is full to see Americans rise to the occasion like they always do, but it’s not our responsibility to have to go and answer the call like this.”
Kennedy questioned the absence of an effective federal response and command center during the disaster, asking, “Where is the federal response and the plan?” In recent visits, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris toured areas affected by the hurricane, but many argue that these efforts were insufficient.
The death toll from Hurricane Helene has reached 227 across six states, as reported by CNN. Kennedy’s sentiments echo those of Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, who expressed disappointment in the federal response, attributing the issues to a “lack of leadership and response.”
