Trump DNI Ratcliffe Surprised By Zuckerberg’s Account Of FBI Censorship Of Hunter Biden Laptop

Former Trump administration Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe says that he is surprised by the account provided by Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg of his company’s interactions with the FBI regarding Hunter Biden’s infamous abandoned laptop.

During an appearance on the Friday broadcast of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Ratcliffe told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that FBI Director Christopher Wray gave him a different account of the agency’s interactions with Facebook before the 2020 election.

He suggested to Carlson that the actions of the FBI in declaring the laptop to be “Russian disinformation” amounted to direct interference in the election. Ratcliffe said that Zuckerberg’s statements are “exactly the opposite of what my conversations with the FBI director himself at the time were about.”

Zuckerberg made his comments about how Facebook handled the laptop story in an appearance last week on the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Zuckerberg told Rogan that the social media giant took steps to limit discussions and sharing of information about the laptop after the FBI gave them an “alert” that “Russian propaganda” was being disseminated.

Several Republican lawmakers have responded to the interview with Rogan with outrage and are calling for Zuckerberg to appear before Congress to discuss the extent to which Facebook colluded with the FBI in 2020.

The FBI issued a statement after Zuckerberg’s statements saying that its notification of “private sector entities” of potential threats is “routine.” It added that its goal was to protect Facebook and its users “from abuse by foreign malign influence actors.”

Meta issued a statement after Zuckerberg’s appearance with Rogan saying the “FBI shared general warnings about foreign interference — nothing specific about Hunter Biden.”

Ratcliffe told Carlson on Friday evening that he stands by his statement in October 2020 that there was “no intelligence” supporting any claim that the laptop was part of some Russian disinformation effort.

That was made necessary at the time because of wild speculation made as if it was factual by Democrats including House Intelligence Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) about Russian involvement in the laptop story.

Ratcliffe said that his statement about the laptop not being a result of Russian disinformation was “backed up by both the Department of Justice and FBI.” He told Carlson that the agencies knew at the time that “Hunter Biden’s laptop was real.” Ratcliffe added that it appears that the government misled the American people about that fact just two weeks before the election.
