Former President Donald Trump recently said he would do “whatever is necessary” to help select the next House speaker after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the position.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) filed a motion to vacate McCarthy from the speakership. Of course, Gaetz’s motion ended up being successful, with all House Democrats voting in favor of the measure alongside eight Republicans. The final vote on Gaetz’s motion was 216-210, the Washington Examiner reported.
Given the motion’s success, McCarthy is no longer the House speaker. Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Steve Scalise (R-LA) are currently vying for the speakership.
Numerous House Republicans have floated the idea of drafting Trump to become the next speaker of the House.
Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) has vowed to nominate Trump for House speaker, citing growing support for his idea from other Republicans.
“NEWS: Many America First Patriots support my nomination of Donald J. Trump as the next Speaker of the House,” Nehls recently said.
One of the Republicans who supports Nehls’ idea to nominate Trump for House speaker is Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL), who told Fox News that the former president would be the “only” individual to unite conservatives.
“We need somebody to unite our conference. And I honestly believe that he’s the only person that can do that,” Steube told Fox News’ “The Story.” “He is the America First agenda. We need the America First agenda to be displayed in the House of Representatives.”
The former president, though, said his focus is on his third presidential run, citing his commanding lead over President Joe Biden and other GOP candidates in polls.
“I am running for President, have a 62 Point lead over Republicans, and am up on Crooked Joe Biden, despite the Democrat Party’s massive Law-fare, Weaponization, and Election Interference efforts, by 4 to 11 Points,” Trump began.

Trump added he “will do whatever is necessary to help with the Speaker of the House selection process, short term until the final selection of a GREAT REPUBLIC SPEAKER is made — A Speaker who will help a new, but highly experienced President, ME, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
