Zelenskyy Blocks Trump’s Mineral Deal While Warning Of A NATO War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected an offer from the Trump administration that would have given the US access to Ukraine’s vast mineral resources in exchange for continued military aid. The refusal comes as Zelenskyy demands further US security commitments while warning that Russia is preparing to strike NATO countries.

Vice President JD Vance presented the deal at the Munich Security Conference, proposing that Ukraine provide the US with access to rare earth minerals such as lithium, graphite, and uranium. These resources are crucial for military and technological development. The Trump administration’s plan aimed to ensure that American aid resulted in tangible benefits for both nations.

Zelenskyy, however, blocked the agreement, stating, “It is not ready to protect us.” He argued that Ukraine’s resources belong to its people and that any deal must include stronger security guarantees. He also dismissed the idea of relying solely on European nations for protection, insisting that US involvement remains critical.

White House officials have expressed disappointment in Zelenskyy’s stance. National Security Council Spokesman Brian Hughes called his decision “short-sighted,” noting that Ukraine was passing up a valuable opportunity.

At the same time, Zelenskyy is pushing dire warnings about Russia’s intentions, claiming that Putin is planning a direct confrontation with NATO. He suggested that an attack could be launched from Belarus as early as this summer, possibly targeting Poland or Lithuania.

Despite refusing the Trump administration’s offer, Ukraine is reportedly drafting its own counterproposal. The move signals Zelenskyy’s continued strategy of demanding US aid while resisting any conditions that would benefit both countries.
