Congress Turns Heat On Epstein Insider

A metallic folder labeled 'EPSTEIN' resting on a wooden surface

A new push in Congress to put Alan Dershowitz under oath in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal could finally crack open years of stonewalling, sealed files, and elite protection.

Story Snapshot

  • House Oversight Republicans have formally ordered Alan Dershowitz to give a taped, transcribed interview about what he knows from inside the Epstein operation.
  • The committee is probing how past federal officials mishandled Epstein, his death, and his political influence network, including possible ethics violations.[5]
  • Dershowitz says he will cooperate fully, wants everything on video, and claims records will prove he was falsely accused.[3]
  • Key Epstein documents and depositions remain sealed by judges, raising fresh questions about why the public is still being kept in the dark.[5][8]

House Republicans Move to Put Dershowitz Under Oath

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has now turned up the heat by formally summoning Alan Dershowitz for an in-person, videotaped interview in Washington, D.C., set for July 9 at 10 a.m. Eastern.[5] The official letter, dated June 12, 2026, makes clear this is part of a broad probe into alleged mismanagement of past federal investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, along with possible ethics violations involving elected officials and powerful allies.[5]

The committee says it believes Dershowitz has information that will help answer how Epstein operated, who protected him, and why the system failed to stop a known sex trafficker for so long.[5] Comer’s team cites public reporting, Department of Justice documents, and records the committee has already obtained, plus Dershowitz’s own role as Epstein’s former lawyer, as reasons he is now a key witness in this widening investigation.[1][5]

Dershowitz Says: Put It All on Tape, I Have Nothing to Hide

Alan Dershowitz, the longtime Harvard law professor and high-profile defense lawyer, is not fighting the request; he says he wants complete transparency and will testify “about everything” in a videotaped, under-oath session open to the public.[3][4] Reports say he has already told the committee by text message that he will oblige, stressing that he will not claim legal privilege and is eager for Americans to see the full questioning, not just media spin.[3][4]

For years, Dershowitz has argued that he was falsely accused in the Epstein saga and that critical records prove it. He points to taped statements and later retractions from at least one accuser, and he says court files, emails, and Federal Bureau of Investigation records show he was framed.[2][6] He has pushed judges to unseal all remaining Epstein-related documents, warning that half-truths and hidden context let rumor and guilt-by-association replace facts and due process.[1][2][6]

What the Oversight Letter Reveals About the Real Target

The Oversight letter to Dershowitz quietly signals a much bigger fight than one lawyer’s reputation.[5] The committee says it is reviewing how the federal government botched Epstein and Maxwell investigations, why Epstein’s death in federal custody still raises doubts, how sex-trafficking networks operate, and how Epstein and Maxwell tried to buy influence to shield their crimes.[5] It also flags “potential violations of ethics rules related to elected officials,” which should alarm anyone who suspects Washington’s political class was protected while victims were ignored.[5]

Chairman Comer has tied the Dershowitz request to testimony from survivors and from a witness named Groff, saying their accounts raised new questions that only inside players can answer.[6] Yet, even now, many of those survivor statements and key underlying documents remain unseen by the public. That gap feeds the sense that ordinary Americans are asked to “move on” while elites and institutions still hold back the full story of who flew on the planes, who visited the island, and who helped shut down earlier probes.[6][11]

Sealed Files, Elite Networks, and Why This Matters to Everyday Americans

Despite years of headlines, large chunks of the Epstein record are still locked away by federal judges, not the White House, according to Dershowitz and other legal observers.[5][8] Dershowitz says crucial depositions and sealed records in New York courts hold the real answers about Epstein’s connections to the rich and powerful, but three judges continue to block full release to the public.[5][8] That means media, activists, and even Congress are still working with only part of the puzzle.

For conservative Americans, this case strikes a nerve for several reasons. The original crimes targeted children and young women, cutting against everything family-centered voters believe in. The years of delays, redactions, and leaks look like yet another example of a two-tier justice system that protects global elites while punishing regular citizens. And the ongoing secrecy around Epstein’s political allies, donors, and partners feeds fears about deep corruption that reaches into old administrations and globalist networks, not the voters who put Trump back in the White House.[5][8][14]

Can This Investigation Break the Pattern of Cover-Up and Guilt by Association?

Sex-crime and trafficking cases with big political stakes often move faster in the media than in the evidence, and Epstein has been the clearest example of that pattern.[11] Congressional inquiries call witnesses, survivors speak out, and social media lights up with lists of names long before the full documents are public. That can create two bad extremes at once: slow accountability for real offenders, and unfair guilt by association for anyone who ever crossed paths with Epstein in public or professional settings.[4][11]

Comer’s demand for a taped, public interview with Dershowitz could help push back on both problems—if Congress follows through and releases the full video and transcript quickly, as promised.[3][5] Sunshine cuts both ways. If documents and testimony prove that some figures were framed or smeared, that truth matters. If they show that powerful officials or donors used influence to bury Epstein’s crimes, that truth matters too. Either way, Americans who care about the rule of law, child safety, and honest government deserve every record, not another round of selective leaks.[5][6][8]
