Mayor Johnson Plays Race Card On Chicago’s Migrant Crisis

As sure as the sunrise, when all else fails you can count on Democrats to deploy the race card. Radical Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson went on MSNBC recently to rail against Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and he rolled out a familiar accusation.

Abbott was forced to act when the Biden administration threw the nation’s southern border wide open. In a stroke of pure genius, last year he began shipping illegal migrants to major U.S. cities.

But not just any metropolitan areas. He chose those who openly defied federal law by declaring themselves “sanctuary” cities. Naturally, this meant they were Democratic strongholds who support the nation being invaded in broad daylight.

When MSNBC host Al Sharpton questioned the Chicago mayor about the crisis, Johnson said that the influx of migrants is overwhelming large cities.

But he went further, claiming that there is an insidious subplot to the busing of migrants around the country.

Johnson declared of Abbott, “He is attacking Democratically-run cities, and particularly cities that are being led by Black leaders or leaders of color. This is unconscionable, I mean, it’s a very raggedy approach. And quite frankly, not only is it reckless and raggedy, but it is evil-spirited.”

Of course, allowing millions of unvetted illegals into Texas fits the definition of “raggedy.”

Johnson crawled to Washington hat in hand demanding $5 billion to alleviate the pressure of being a sanctuary city. But, much as New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams discovered, his pleas to the White House fell on deaf ears.

This is a disaster of the cities’ own making, and race is not part of the equation. Rather, it is the arrogance of declaring that federal law does not apply and Chicago will welcome any and all who cross the southern border.

And his current tune is a sharp departure from campaign rhetoric spewed last year. Johnson tweeted that “Chicago must lead with and live by the promise to be a sanctuary city.”

The future mayor declared that longtime residents “don’t have to lose for new arrivals to gain — there’s enough space at the table for all of us to sit and eat.”

Now, faced with the fruits of his words and actions, Johnson quickly resorts to racial politics. It is hardly surprising, and it further proves the emptiness of Democratic promises when faced with the harsh reality that unchecked illegal migration brought.
