NYC Program Doles Out $53 Million To Illegal Immigrants

The New York City Administration of Mayor Eric Adams is launching a $53 million pilot program to provide pre-paid credit cards to illegal immigrants whom the city is already footing the bill to house in New York hotel rooms, according to a report on Friday by the New York Post.

New Jersey company Mobility Capital Finance is providing illegal migrant asylum seekers who are staying at the Roosevelt Hotel on the city taxpayer’s dime with city money from the $53 million fund so they can buy food, according to municipal records discovered by the Post.

“MoCaFi looks forward to partnering with New York City to disburse funds for asylum seekers to purchase fresh, hot food,” said Mobility Capital founder and CEO Wole Coaxum. “MoCaFi’s goal is to expand access to financial resources for individuals excluded from banking, such as asylum seekers while helping the local economy.”

According to City Hall, the Immediate Response Card program will open with a cohort of 500 immigrant families placed by the city in short-term hotel stays. It will replace the food service currently provided by New York City.

The initiative is similar to New York state’s food stamp program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), designed to help low-income New Yorkers with food expenses using a state credit card. Immediate Response Card provides funds on the same income scale as New York’s food stamp program.

“Not only will this provide families with the ability to purchase fresh food for their culturally relevant diets and the baby supplies of their choosing, but the pilot program is expected to save New York City more than $600,000 per month, or more than $7.2 million annually,” said Adams spokesperson Kayla Mamelak.

Migrants who receive cards through the Adams Administration initiative can only use them at grocery stores, supermarkets, convenient stores, and bodegas. Card recipients must sign a sworn statement promising they will only use the cards to buy food or baby supplies. Violators will not be allowed to keep their cards.

A commentator at RedState wrote, “If you look at the policies of New York City when it comes to illegal aliens, you would have to think they were insane [ … ] But then in the next breath, NYC then does things that would make illegal aliens want to come.”
