Ocasio-Cortez Claims Biden Is ‘Strongest’ Democrat To Challenge Trump

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recently claimed that President Joe Biden is the “strongest” leftist presidential candidate to face former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Ocasio-Cortez appeared in an interview with NBC News host Kristen Walker, where she was asked about Biden’s weak polling against Trump despite the former president being involved in a series of legal issues.

The New York congresswoman pointed out that Biden, whose name was not on the ballot in New Hampshire, won The Granite State’s Democratic primary through a write-in campaign.

“I think what we have right now, what we’ve seen in New Hampshire, he is virtually the nominee of the party. His turnout in New Hampshire is actually not something to ignore,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“We saw, from a write-in campaign, remember, President Biden wasn’t even on the ballot in New Hampshire, he won overwhelmingly with turnout that even exceeded Obama’s 2012 turnout when Obama was on the ballot,” she added. “And so, there are quite a few indicators in his strength in New Hampshire.”

“We will see what happens in South Carolina and, of course, when we get to important primaries like Michigan,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

The New York lawmaker was later asked if she believed Biden was the Democratic Party’s best option to challenge the former president in the 2024 presidential election. In response, Ocasio-Cortez said the president is “the strongest nominee” that Democrats could put forward.

Ocasio-Cortez said she believes Democrats have a “strong vision” they can run on, citing Biden’s promise to “codify abortion rights” in the U.S.

“I think we can certainly do more to be advancing our vision,” she said. “And I believe that we have a strong vision that we can run on. You know I think — and — and for what it’s worth, the president has said, ‘If you give me the House, and if you give me the Senate and reelect me to the presidency, we will codify abortion rights and the right to choose in this country.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s confidence in Biden’s chances to defeat Trump in the 2024 election comes as the president faces immense criticism over the deaths of three U.S. service members, who died during an aerial drone attack on U.S. troops stationed in Jordan.
