Trump Receives Record Number Of Votes In New Hampshire

Former President Donald Trump recently defeated former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) handily in the New Hampshire primary. The former president set a record for votes received by a presidential contender in The Granite State.

Prominent pollster Rich Baris noted that Trump broke the record for most votes cast for a presidential contender in the New Hampshire primary. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) previously held the record in 2016.

In 2016, the Vermont lawmaker garnered over 152,000 votes, defeating then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The former president received more than 163,000 votes in the New Hampshire primary and won 12 of the state’s 22 delegates.

Trump trounced his last competitor, Haley. The recent victory in The Granite State only solidifies the former president’s status as the GOP frontrunner for the party’s presidential nomination in 2024.

Trump’s win over Haley comes despite New Hampshire’s open primary, which allows Democrats to vote in the primary. The outcome in The Granite State deals a blow to Haley’s presidential campaign, which depended on independents and Democrats to defeat the former president in New Hampshire.

Despite losing in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, Haley told her supporters that “this race is far from over.”

“New Hampshire is first in the nation. It is not last in the nation,” the former South Carolina told her supporters. “This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go, and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina.”

In his victory speech, Trump criticized the former South Carolina governor, saying, “Somebody ran up to the state all dressed up nicely when it was at seven, but now I just walked up it’s at 14%.” The former president pointed out his lead over Haley in the primary.

“She was up and I said wow, she’s doing like a speech like she won. She didn’t, she lost,” he said.

The former president expressed confidence he would win the forthcoming South Carolina GOP presidential primary. Trump has been endorsed by several politicians in The Palmetto State, including Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R).

A poll by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates showed Trump trouncing Haley in South Carolina by 40 percentage points.
