Chase CEO: Voters Chose Trump Because He ‘Wasn’t Wrong On Critical Issues’

JP Morgan Chase Bank CEO Jamie Dimon has acknowledged that Americans choose to vote for former president and current GOP primary frontrunner Donald Trump because they support his positions on “critical issues” like the economy, illegal immigration, and dealing with foreign adversaries.

Dimon made the remarks in a Wednesday interview with CNBC News’ “Squawk Box” during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, where he argued that Democrats needed to stop “scapegoating” Trump supporters and instead try to better understand them. He pointed out that the “MAGA” base doesn’t like Trump because of his personal life, they support him because of his accomplishments on the economy during his first term and his positions on important issues.

“I wish the Democrats would think a little more carefully when they talk about MAGA… when people say ‘MAGA’ they’re actually looking at people voting for Trump… and they’re basically scapegoating them that ‘You are like him,’” Dimon said.

“I don’t think they’re voting for Trump because of his family values. If you just take a step back, be honest. He’s kind of right about NATO. Kind of right about immigration. He grew the economy quite well. Tax reform worked. He was right about some of China,” he added.
“He wasn’t wrong about some of these critical issues and that’s why they’re voting for him.

And I think people should be a little more respectful of our fellow citizens. And when you guys have people up here– You should always ask the Why. Not like it’s a binary thing, you’re supporting Trump, you’re not supporting Trump. Why are you supporting Trump?” Dimon continued.

“The Democrats have done a pretty good job with the deplorables hugging onto their Bibles and their beer and their guns. I mean, really like, can we just stop that stuff and actually grow up, and treat other people with respect to listen to a little bit? And I do think the economy will affect I think there’s this negative talk about MAGA is going to hurt Biden’s election campaign,” he concluded.

The policies that Dimon referenced have been key talking points for Trump on the campaign trail in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, as the former president has touted his economic successes, his strength on the world stage, and his tough attitude on illegal immigration. All of these talking points have led to Trump’s early success in the polls and in the primary, as he won the Iowa Caucuses last week in a landslide — winning 98 out of Iowa’s 99 counties and receiving 51% of the vote.

The failure of President Joe Biden on these issues will also likely help Trump’s campaign, as Biden has enacted policies that were virtually the exact opposite of Trump’s, giving voters a perfect comparison between the governing style of the two candidates they will likely be choosing between in the 2024 presidential election. Beyond the issues, as Dimon pointed out, Biden’s continued demonization of Trump’s entire voter base will only serve to hurt his campaign as it continues to divide the country and turn off the moderate voters in swing states.
